"Sir Roger Bannister, First Athlete to Break 4-Minute Mile, Dies at 88"
A sad day... Walter Vladimir Cicha and I ran on that Oxford track back in 2004 when we were attending the funeral of our lost friend Dave Ryan in a cycling accident. They were celebrating the 50th anniversary of that event in history and we walked past him while on campus. Amazing to be so close to someone who had such a profound impact on history.
Today is the 13th anniversary of the death of cyclist and GE R&D scientist David Ryan, on Riverview Road in Clifton Park. While on his evening training ride on the popular “River Loop” route on the evening of June 29, 2004, Ryan was killed by a car driven by Joshua Pannicia, who was doing more than 70mph on the narrow, winding road when he lost control of his car, crossed the center line, and struck Ryan, 33.
This evening at 6pm, several friends and I will be riding the River Loop with a short stop at the ghost bike site on Riverview Road, just east of Sugar Hill Road. I realize it’s short notice, but if you would like to join us, send me a Facebook message and I can give you the address of where to meet us. This will be a friendly, no-drop ride.
